Relationships

Having healthy relationships can bring emotional balance and wellbeing to our lives. However, when these relationships are compromised, it can negatively impact every aspect of our wellbeing.

Addiction

Identity

Identity can be a confusing time for many people, particularly for the Black, Asian, mixed-race and LGBT community. It can be a common diagnosis for mental anguish in this sector. So often, this group of people are presented as confused, melodramatically torn between a number of different worlds.

Mental Health

  1. Schizophrenia: A chronic and severe mental disorder characterized by distorted thinking, hallucinations, delusions, disorganized speech, and impaired emotional expression. Normally this mental health is normally dealt by a psychiatrist.

  2. Bipolar Disorder: A mood disorder characterized by extreme mood swings between manic episodes (elevated mood, increased energy) and depressive episodes (low mood, loss of interest or pleasure).

  3. Depressive Disorder: A mood disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest or pleasure in activities, often accompanied by physical symptoms such as changes in appetite or sleep.

  4. Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD): A personality disorder characterized by unstable relationships, impulsive behavior, intense emotional fluctuations, distorted self-image, and chronic feelings of emptiness.

  5. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): A mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, characterized by intrusive memories, flashbacks, avoidance of triggers, negative changes in mood and cognition, and heightened arousal.

  6. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): A mental health disorder characterized by intrusive, repetitive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) performed to alleviate anxiety or distress.

  7. Eating Disorders: Severe disturbances in eating behaviors and body image, including Anorexia Nervosa (restriction of food intake leading to significantly low body weight), Bulimia Nervosa (binge-eating followed by compensatory behaviors), and Binge Eating Disorder (recurrent episodes of binge-eating without compensatory behaviors).

  8. Schizoaffective Disorder: A mental health disorder characterized by symptoms of both schizophrenia (such as hallucinations or delusions) and mood disorders (such as mania or depression).

  9. Anxiety Disorders: Conditions such as Panic Disorder (recurrent panic attacks), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (excessive worry and anxiety about various aspects of life), and Social Anxiety Disorder (intense fear of social situations) can severely impair daily functioning and quality of life.

  10. Personality Disorders: In addition to BPD, other personality disorders such as Antisocial Personality Disorder (disregard for the rights of others, lack of empathy) and Paranoid Personality Disorder (suspicion and distrust of others) can significantly impact relationships and functioning.

Bereavement

Bereavement can affect people in different ways, there is no right or wrong way to feel. It is a distressing yet common experience that can involve many difficult emotions. The way we react can be influenced by many factors, including our age, cultural background or previous experiences with loss.

When accepting the loss of someone close to us, initially it can be difficult to believe it has actually happened. You may feel like this even if the death was expected. Although distressing to accept, it can be important to come to terms with the reality of your loss.
